Founded in 1784, Clarksville is one of the South's most historic cities.

As Tennessee's third-fastest growing city, Clarksville is proud to offer the best of both a rich heritage and a vibrant city on the move.

Clarksville is also home to Austin Peay University. It was created in 1927, and was named in honor of Governor Austin Peay, who was serving his third term in office when the school was established.

In 1999, Clarksville was hit by an F3 tornado that destroyed much of the city's downtown area and injured five people. The twister touched down at 4:15 A.M. on the morning of January 22nd, and caused more than $72 million in damages.
